In 1988, a handful of migrated families from Kerala, India along with Rev Baby Daniel, an AG ordained minister, decided to start an Assembly of God fellowship in metro Detroit. Initially the services were held at one of the brother’s house with just four families. But God answered the small fellowship’s prayer and provided a place for worship at Warren Assembly of God, Warren, MI. Shortly after, the fellowship was registered as New Life Assembly of God and was affiliated to AG Michigan District as a Home Missions Church with the vision of reaching out the growing Indian community in Metro Detroit.
In 1989, Rev Baby Daniel vacated the Senior Pastor position and the Church was relocated to Faith Temple Church of God facility in Madison Heights, MI under the new name India Assembly of God. Rev Manuel Johnson, an energetic and young pastor became the Senior Pastor in 1992. Rev. Johnson worked very diligently among the Indian community and the church grew in membership under his leadership.
In 1997 Rev Manual Johnson vacated the senior pastor position and Rev A. E. Thomas was appointed as the senior pastor of the India Assembly of God. The church was on the verge of growth and was relocated to Troy Assembly of God facility in Troy, MI to better serve the growing Indian community. Under Rev Thomas leadership the congregation decided to change the worship format to better serve the next generation and the local community. A new vision emphasizing the importance of “A Church for all language groups!” was introduced to accommodate the new challenges and reality. In 2000 the name of the church was changed to International Assembly of God (IAG) to reflect our new mission and vision.
In 2004 God answered the long awaited desire of the congregation to have a place of our own for worship. The Lord Almighty provided us the means to purchase the present church property at 3949 E 9 Mile Rd, Warren, MI. Also during this time the church experienced dynamic growth.
In 2005, India Pentecostal Assembly, Sterling Heights, MI decided to merge with International Assembly of God. Same year, per congregation request, the AG Michigan district recommended to the AG General Council to elevate status of IAG from a District Supervised Church to a self governing, General Council church of Assembly of God. The General Council approved IAG as a General Council Church in 2005.
In 2011 Rev A.E. Thomas vacated the senior pastor position and Rev Thomas Yohannan is currently serving as the senior pastor of IAG.
